Bidding farewell to India after another great trip. Been working long days, everyday, so excited to get home and rest up a bit. Being here, this year, has been such a great learning experience. I have been able to discover some other cool eco-fabrics to possibly use in our future collections (such as recycled cotton and bamboo) and am coming back home with lots and lots of fun new ideas. The past month has been filled with nothing but vibrant colors, music, and smiling people. I have loved every minute of it. I am already counting the days until I return…

On the hunt for recycled silk

Namaste a todos! Here in India working on the spring 2012 collection and, as always, enjoying every minute of being here. The last couple of weeks, I’ve been working hard to collect as much awesome used fabric as possible– but this year it’s been getting difficult. True, I am finding old fabric but sadly it seems less and less of it is 100% silk . I am discovering that each year, it’s becoming harder and harder to get the high-level used silk that I’ve grown accustomed to finding and re-utilizing. Around ten years ago, rayon started to become available (offering a cheaper and more durable alternative to silk) and then the trend became to purchase it instead of the more delicate (and expensive) silk material. Given that change in people’s buying behavior, now, years later, the used fabric I am finding is becoming increasingly more rayon prominent– and I foresee that it will only become even more so in the coming years. So what is an eco-friendly, up-cycling girl like me to do? Well, consider branching out of course! In the next year, I will be exploring new things that I can offer you, my lovely eco-trendsetters. The challenge is, as always, to try to keep it as cute and affordable as possible. I’ve got some ideas… so stay tuned!

Yay, SDSU! Thanks so much for all of the Aztec love. We are here for two more days (today and tomorrow) so come and get it while it’s hot! It’s mega bargain time, so prepare yourselves ladies!:-) Things are selling out quick… so come, come, come! Bet you didn’t know recycling could be this fun!:-)
